Reefari Hardline Great Barrier Reef Experience Final Day
White Tipped Coral Trout
We anchored at Steven’s Reef on the Tuesday night and were up early thanks to a Northerly breeze that had come from nowhere. Our crew transferred across to the Raptor II and headed for home in a choppy sea.
Greg wasn’t about to go over his favourite marks in the shipping channel without a few drifts though, so, it was action stations at a mark he has named ‘Carnage’. We only had two drifts but they were enough to unleash the mark’s potential. Several top quality Nannagai and some huge Hussar were landed including a trophy specimen to Horto that made even his two speed reel earn its keep.
The wind showed no signs of abating however, so with a box full of pinkies it was time to call an end to our Hardline Reefari. It had opened our eyes to the beauty, vastness and untapped fishing opportunities of the piscatorial paradise that is the outer reef.
On a trip of this magnitude you learn a little something about fishing and enjoy some memorable moments with like minded camaraderie. Every truly avid fisho needs to do a Hardline reefari at least once and I’ve already got my name down for the next one!
